Five Travel Gadgets Worth Giving

How do you know if a travel gadget is worth giving?
It ought to make at least one tiny aspect of a trip less aggravating, or save time, or money, or some combination. The item should be easy to use, easy to pack, and should easily pay for itself. Click on the pic to check them out.

Florida Highway Patrol: Not Seeking Search Warrant in Tiger Woods Case

The Florida Highway Patrol says it is not seeking a search warrant in the Tiger Woods car crash case. This statement contradicts what celebrity Web site TMZ earlier reported. The Web site claims authorities in Florida are trying to obtain a search warrant to enable them to seize medical records from the hospital that treated Tiger Woods, TMZ reported. They are seeking Woods' medical records to determine whether his injuries are consistent with a car accident or domestic violence, according to TMZ. Charles Woodson wants to be known as more than a football player. Donating $2 million to the new University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital gives him a chance to do that. The school announced Woodson’s gift on Thanksgiving before he played for the Green Bay Packers against the Detroit Lions. Then, he intercepted two passes—returning one for a score—forced a fumble, recovered it and had a sack. Click on the pic for the full story.

Katie Holmes ruins 'New Moon' for some New York fans

She may seem shy and reserved next to larger-than-life husband Tom Cruise, but it turns out Katie Holmes doesn’t know how to keep quiet when it counts. Katie and a group of her girlfriends stopped by a movie theater near her Manhattan apartment Saturday to catch the latest installment of the “Twilight” series “New Moon” where they proceeded to ruin the film for moviegoers. “Katie came into the movie theater with two of her girlfriends in a great mood,”. “They bought tickets in advance to see ‘New Moon’ like all the rest of the Twihards. They checked out the snacks and then they took their seats and kept talking.”
All that would have seemed rather normal, except for the fact that they kept on gabbing throughout the entire film! I don't care who you are, shut the hell up during the movie!

A Romp Around the Clock Stops Time in Sydney

The identity of a couple doin it in a clock tower in central Sydney on Friday remains a mystery, but their intimate moment won’t be forgotten after passers-by captured it on video and mobile phone cameras. The couple was in full view of the busy street below, with people at a bus stop laughing and pointing at the twosome. Definitely a porn photo shoot in progress. The manager of the hotel said that there is no roof top access, so how did they get there?

Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist

Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq — the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And three of the SEALs who captured him are now facing criminal charges. The three, all members of the Navy's elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called an admiral's mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial. REALLY?, really? our Navy SEALs are being punished for punching murders? What would Patton say? What has this country turned into? So dissapointed. Click on the pic for more.

ABC: Lambert's performance draws 1,500 complaints

Complaints poured in Monday about Adam Lambert's sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards, including criticism of his kiss with a male keyboard player that was left out of rehearsals for the show. ABC did not expect one of Lambert's dancers to stick his face in the singer's crotch during the S&M-themed performance of "For Your Entertainment," a moment that was cut out when the awards show was broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on the West Coast on Sunday. My wife recorded it and said, "you gotta see this!" I did and felt dirty like I did watching Bruno. Yikes, Freddie Mercury would be proud. Click on the pic for the full story.

Philadelphia Man Pleads Guilty to Threatening New York Giants Coach in Extortion Attempt

A Philadelphia man admitted he tried to extort money from New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin by mailing letters in which he threatened his family.
Herbert Alex Simpson, 30, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of sending threatening communications to Coughlin and one of Simpson's former employers, the
Department of Justice said. Simpson pretended to be other people in the letters, telling Coughlin that his "life would be a living hell by doing something to [his] family," according to the DOJ. In correspondence to his ex-boss, Simpson threatened to kill him and his family. Simpson faces up to 10 years in prison and more than $500,000 in fines when he's sentenced Feb. 26, the Justice Department said. I'm just glad to hear that he was not being black mailed for having sex with his staff.

Packers remain in the NFC Wild Card hunt

The Packers managed to hang on for a 30-24 win against the 49'ers, but the Defense was not getting it done. It appears that it might have been more like a Cowboys power outage, considering that they beat the Redskins 7-6. Meanwhile the Minnesota Vikings got an amazing outing again out of Brett Favre 22-25 4 TD's in a 35-9 beating of Seattle. The Lions gave up 16 consecutive points to the Cleveland Browns in Detroit, but then won the shoot out between the leagues two worst teams 38-37. Then in the night cap the Chicago Bears figured out another way to lose, with Cutler throwing yet another pick in the end. Cutler was innefective again in the red zone and over threw most of his targets against the Eagles who won 24-20.

Jennifer Lopez's Awards Show Tumble Gets Edited Out

Jennifer Lopez's "comeback" performance at Sunday's American Music Awards was among the night's most anticipated. And while Lopez looked great, things didn't go quite as well as she probably hoped. JLo performed her newest song from "Love?" titled "Louboutins." Midway through her performance Lopez attempted a dramatic move, jumping off the back of one of her dancers, but it ended in disaster she fell flat on her backside. Oprah to End Her Talk Show in 2011

"The Oprah Winfrey Show," an iconic broadcast that grew from a local Chicago talk show into the foundation of a multibillion dollar media empire, will end its run in 2011 after 25 seasons on the air, Winfrey's production company said Thursday night. Winfrey, who became one of the most powerful women in entertainment from a seat on the couch of her set in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood, plans to announce the final date for her show during a live broadcast on Friday, Harpo Productions Inc. said. A Harpo spokeswoman declined to comment Thursday on Winfrey's future plans except to say that "The Oprah Winfrey Show" will not be transferred to cable television. Winfrey is widely expected to start up a new talk show on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, a much-delayed joint venture with Discovery Communications Inc. that is expected to debut in 2011. OWN is to replace the Discovery Health Channel and will debut in some 70 million homes.

Missouri Girl Said Hobby Was 'Killing People'

On an Internet site, 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante listed her hobbies as "killing people" and "cutting." It may have sounded like a teenage exaggeration, but authorities say she fulfilled her words. Even as new details emerge about the teenager charged with killing 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten, many facts about the crime continued to be kept secret Thursday — and may never be released by authorities unless Bustamante goes to trial for murder. On a YouTube profile viewed by The Associated Press, which has since been taken down, Bustamante listed her hobbies as "killing people" and "cutting." A year ago, Bustamante posted a video to the site in which she appears to intentionally shock herself on an electric fence near her home, then goads her two younger brothers into doing the same. 800-Pound South Carolina Man Dies After Getting Stuck in Recliner for 8 Months

When an ambulance brought Daniel Webb home from the hospital after he hurt his knee in March, paramedics warned the then 550-pound man he probably wouldn't be able to get up from his recliner if they put him there, his wife said.
Webb told them to leave him there anyway. He would sit in that recliner, slowly dying, for the next eight months. Finally, paramedics were called back to his Greenwood home on Wednesday because he was in a lot of pain.
Webb's body was physically stuck to the power recliner and firefighters had to cut him from the chair to take him to the hospital. He died a few hours later, his body covered with sores and a "very bad odor," according to a police report.
Webb, 33, didn't ask for help for all those months, because he was ashamed and didn't have health insurance. He slept and used the bathroom in his chair and she cleaned it every day. The former preacher would post sermons online from the chair, and it wasn't long before he decided he was ready to go home to the Lord, she said

France Celebrates World Cup Clincher Despite Cheating Admission

TV Ad Seeks to Recruit Arab-Americans to CIA

There's a swirl of activity in a spacious, modern kitchen as final meal preparations are made. An older man tries to swipe a felafel off an appetizer plate but instead gets a loving hand slap from a woman. The happy, well-dressed guests move to a table full of food in a dining room adorned with Middle Eastern wall-hangings. It's an inviting, if idealized, dinner party scene from any Arab-American home -- at least that's what the CIA seeks to convey in the first television commercial of its kind. The agency, in turn, hopes it's an inviting message to U.S. Arabs. "Your nation, your world," a male voice says with a Middle Eastern accent, as the frame moves outside and pans out to show the party through a window of a gleaming, high-rise building. In seconds, the shot zooms out to an image of the U.S. from space. "They're worth protecting.

Larry Johnson signs with Bengals

Larry Johnson might have his career up-and-running sooner than expected.
The running back who was banished from Kansas City for bad behavior signed on for a backup role with the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday, giving the AFC North leaders depth for the rest of this season. He might not be watching for long.
A day after coach Marvin Lewis referred to Johnson as an insurance policy in case of injury, he said it’s possible the running back could play in some form Sunday in Oakland if starter Cedric Benson is still limited by a strained hip. Talk about lucking out! LJ gets out of KC and goes to a 7-2 team and may start right away.

Joanna Krupa Cut From 'Dancing With the Stars'

Model Joanna Krupa is leaving "Dancing With the Stars."
The Poland-born beauty was eliminated from the hit ABC show Tuesday.
She and professional partner Derek Hough scored an impressive 81 out of 90 points for their performances on Monday's episode of the hit ABC show, but fans failed to keep the couple afloat with their votes. Head judge Len Goodman said Krupa and Hough were the "most consistent of all of our couples" throughout the season, regularly landing near the top of the leaderboard. Biden's Security Detail Crashes, 3rd in a Week

Car responsible for clearing a path for the vice president's motorcade is involved in a collision in New York that sent three people to the hospital, the third car accident involving Biden's security in a week. Three unmarked police vehicles, with their lights and sirens on, were traveling 5 to 10 minutes ahead of the motorcade on Manhattan's West Side and were checking traffic before Biden passed en route to an appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," chief police spokesman Paul Browne said. The cars were going through an intersection when the second one collided with a livery cab around 5:40 p.m. Traffic had stopped for the police, but the livery cab driver pulled out around the line of vehicles and was trying to go through the intersection, police said. 3 in one week? Sarah Palin coy about 2012 run, but door is open

Sarah Palin said in an interview broadcast Tuesday that a 2012 presidential bid is "not on my radar," but wouldn't rule out playing some role in the next presidential election. "My ambition, if you will, my desire is to help our country in whatever role that may be, and I cannot predict what that will be, what doors will be open in the year 2012," she told Barbara Walters. When asked whether she'd play a major role, the former Republican vice presidential candidate replied that "if people will have me, I will." Palin is making the rounds to promote her new book, "Going Rogue," which came out Tuesday. On Monday, she appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Tina Fey is certainly hoping they will have her. Obama Draws Fire for Bow to Japanese Emperor

President Obama's deep bow to Japanese Emperor Akihito on Saturday may not have violated any official protocol, but critics of the presidential act of deference nevertheless say he's guilty of bad form. The incident followed Obama's dip to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia in April, which the White House said was not a bow despite the criticism that followed. But in Japan, the White House could not argue with a photograph that showed him bent at a nearly 90-degree angle while shaking the hand of the emperor, as Empress Michiko smiled faintly next to him. Hoody fumbles in the clutch

Needing a first down to seal the game, Belichick decided to go for it on fourth-and-2 from his own 28 with 2:08 to go. The Patriots called their second timeout of the drive, leaving them with none, to set up the play: A short pass from Brady to Kevin Faulk, something the 2007 NFL MVP had repeatedly used to burn Indy’s young, depleted pass defense all night. Not this time. Faulk made a juggling catch but safety Melvin Bullitt, who replaced Bob Sanders in the lineup, came straight up the field and drove the Patriots running back into the ground a half-yard short of the marker. "We tried to win the game on that play," Belichick explained. "I thought we could make the yard. We had a good play, we completed it. I don’t know how we couldn’t get a yard." Hoody! you showed your D you have no faith. That's not Hoody like.

'2012' Move Tops Box Office, Pulls in $225M Worldwide

Doom spelled dollars at the box office as the global-disaster tale "2012" opened at No. 1 domestically with $65 million and pulled in $225 million worldwide.
The Sony Pictures action saga tells the story of a scramble to save remnants of humanity aboard giant arks as the earth's crust shifts and flood waters pour over most of the planet. With a cast led by John Cusack, Danny Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor, "2012" was directed by doomsday specialist Roland Emmerich ("Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow"). Overseas, "2012" did $17.2 million in France, $15.3 million in Russia, $9.9 million in South Korea and $8.1 million in Spain. Domestically, "2012" came in just shy of the $68.7 million opening weekend for "The Day After Tomorrow." But Sony reported that its global total was the best ever for an original movie not based on an established franchise, brand or best-selling novel.

'Balloon Boy' Parents Plead Guilty in Hoax Case

The Colorado father of a 6-year-old dubbed "balloon boy" pleaded guilty Friday to attempting to influence a public servant, a felony, in what authorities say was an elaborate hoax for publicity. His wife also entered a guilty plea. Richard and Mayumi Heene are accused of concocting a spectacular ruse by reporting their son was aboard a runaway balloon. Mayumi was pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of false reporting. They will avoid more spectacle — and a trial — Friday by entering the pleas to charges that could bring some jail time and probation. Sentencing was set for a later date. They wasted our time with this crap and should be punished. It is unfortunate that their kids have to endure this. I'd put the house up for sale and move.
