UK police to review Rolling Stones guitarist death

British police say they will review the 1969 death of Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones. Sussex police said Monday in a statement that they have received documents from an investigative journalist that relate to Jones' death.
They say the papers "will be examined by the force, but it's too early to comment at this time as to what the outcome might be." Jones died in July 1969 at age 27. His body was found in the swimming pool at his 11-acre (4.5-hectare) Sussex estate. A coroner said Jones drowned while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. But there has long been speculation about the nature of Jones' death.
The Mail on Sunday said Scott Jones — who is not related to the musician — handed over 600 documents to Sussex police.

Giant Burrowing Cockroach May Set Record for World's Largest Insect

His name is Heathcliffe, he's a giant burrowing cockroach and now he's contending for the title of world's heaviest insect.
But though it may sound unappealing, Heathcliffe and his kind are not the average dirty, imported roaches, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Australia's giant cockroaches give birth to live young, look after them in a burrow, make "great pets" and dine on leaves, the paper reported.
"They are the world's heaviest cockroach and if not the heaviest of all insects, they are certainly a contender," Sydney University senior biology lecturer Nathan Lo said Thursday. "They are different to other insects in a lot of ways and are totally unrelated to the American or German cockroaches found in Australian households. Click on the pic to see video.

Reports: Seahawks sign RB Edgerrin James

Edgerrin James is Seattle's latest aging star running back, less than a year and half after Shaun Alexander was unceremoniously booted out of town.
The league's leading active rusher signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks on Tuesday night. He's being asked to help revive a rushing offense that has been generally dormant since February 2006, when Alexander was the NFL MVP and Seattle was in its only Super Bowl.

Sen. Edward Kennedy, the longtime Massachusetts lawmaker whose personal tragedies along with his professional triumphs and losses unfolded in the public eye, has died at his home in Hyannis Port after battling a brain tumor. Michael Jackson's Death Ruled a Homicide, Charges Likely

The Los Angeles County coroner's finding that the death of Michael Jackson was a homicide could mean criminal charges for his doctor, who told investigators that he administered a mix of powerful drugs to treat the pop star's insomnia hours before his death. The homicide ruling was based on forensic tests that found the anesthetic propofol combined with at least two sedatives to kill Jackson, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Monday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the findings have not been publicly released. Joan Jett Suing Former Runaways Bassist Over Movie About the All-Girl Rock Band

Joan Jett has a black heart for a former bandmate.
The hard-rocking frontwoman is suing a bassist of her first band, the Runaways, for blocking a film about the all-girl hard-rock group.
Jacqueline Fuchs, a k a Jackie Fox, who played for the band from December 1975 to June 1977, claims to own a piece of its trademark and has gone out of her way to disrupt the biopic, titled "The Runaways."
"Fuchs tried to have the film halted and has demanded to see the script, even though there is no character based on her," says a lawsuit filed by Jett in Manhattan Supreme Court. The film, which stars Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, is set to hit theaters next year. "It's been an ongoing fight," said Jett's lawyer, Oren Warshavsky. "With the movie coming out soon, we need to resolve this once and for all."

Miss Venezuela was the fairest of them all once again, winning the 2009 Miss Universe crown for the second year straight and the sixth time since the pageant's creation. Dressed in a flowing red gown, 18-year-old Stefania Fernandez hugged the runner-up from the Dominican Republic and danced in joy as her victory was announced Sunday. Carrie Prejean In Talks With Donald Trump To Star in 'Celebrity Apprentice'

Donald Trump was the one who gave the Miss California directors the go-ahead to dethrone beauty queen Carrie Prejean earlier this year, but it looks like he may soon have the opportunity to say "you’re fired" himself.
Prejean has been in talks with Trump over the past few weeks to star in the third installment of his hit NBC show "Celebrity Apprentice." Altered Sears Web Site Offers Grill to 'Cook Babies'

The Web site for department store giant Sears offered a gruesome sales pitch Thursday — a grill that could "cook babies" and be used to roast body parts.
The goof, first reported by TMZ.com, listed any grill viewed by visitors to the company's Web site under the category of "human cooking > Grills to Cook Babies and More > Body Part Roaster." The wording apparently was the work of a mischievous customer and, when discovered, was quickly changed, but not before TMZ.com captured a screengrab.
The George Foreman Grill only cooks babies named George.

'Cash for Clunkers' Program to End Monday Night

The Obama administration plans to end the popular $3 billion Cash for Clunkers program on Monday, giving car shoppers a few more days to take advantage of big government incentives. The Transportation Department said Thursday the government will wind down the program on Monday at 8 p.m. EDT. Car buyers can receive rebates of $3,500 or $4,500 for trading in older vehicles for new, more fuel-efficient models. I'm sure our local dealerships will be busy as people take advantage of this Automakers verison of the "Stimulous" plan. Nothing like a Monster Truck driving over Clunkers to spell fun.

The Dukes of Texas

An embarrassed Sheriff Gary Painter fired one Midland County deputy and suspended three others without pay after a scantily dressed waitress holding a rifle posed for photographs on the hood of a patrol vehicle. The incident occurred last week in the parking lot of a Twin Peaks restaurant, which promotes its "fun, friendly and sometimes flirty atmosphere!"
The deputies told Painter that they had about three to five beers each.
A fifth deputy who remained inside the eatery got a letter of reprimand. This sounds like a scene out of the Dukes of Hazzard where Daisy distracts the officers while the Duke boys break for it in the General Lee. Love that the place is called Twin Peaks...I'll say.

Ochocinco kicks

A new role, another new name for Chad Ochocinco.
Cincinnati’s emergency kicker and international soccer fan booted the decisive extra point late in the first half and the Bengals beat the sloppy New England Patriots 7-6 on Thursday night.
” ‘Esteban’ Ochocinco is back, the most interesting footballer in the world,” Ochocinco said. “Everyone has to remember, I’ve always said that soccer is my No. 1 sport. I think Ronaldinho would be proud of me right now.”
Ochocinco practices kicking but had never done it in a preseason or regular-season game in his eight years with the Bengals, the first seven as Chad Johnson. But when Shayne Graham’ groin felt sore in pregame warmups, coach Marvin Lewis decided to rest the team’s franchise player and see what Ochocinco could do.

Tarkenton again expresses disgust over Favre

Fran Tarkenton, who previously has expressed his loathing over Brett Favre's inability to make a decision, spoke out again Wednesday, a day after Favre decided to sign with the Minnesota Vikings. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and it is obvious that Fran is feeling some jealousy here. Magician David Copperfield Accused of Raping Woman on Private Island

A Seattle woman claims that illusionist David Copperfield repeatedly sexually assaulted her on his private island in the Bahamas during a horrifying two-day ordeal, according to a bombshell federal lawsuit.
The magician raped the 22-year-old victim, sexually assaulted her on two other occasions and threatened to kill her, court papers filed in Washington state claim. The woman says her nightmare unfolded two summers ago, when the 52-year-old performer invited her to his $50 million private retreat on Musha Cay after meeting her at a show in Washington state. Lets face it, Copperfield is a freak. Creepy magic dude. If I recall this is one of many accusations that he will make dissapear.

Favre & Vick on Madden 10

Now that Brett Favre has signed with the Minnesota Vikings, the real question on a lot of people's mind is: when will Favre be available on EA's Madden 10 and what will his rating be? Well, it didn't take long for the folks at EA Sports to come up with an answer.
Brett Favre, not to mention Michael Vick, will be included today in a Madden '10 roster update via XBox Live.
EA spokeperson Rob Semsey told the Chicago Sun-Times that Favre will have an overall rating of 82. EA has even released a Brett Favre Madden '10 screen cap as you see above.
Michael Vick will have a 73 rating, a far cry from the days when Vick scored a 90 in Madden '08.

Brad Pitt spills to Nazis in ‘Inglourious Basterds’ clip

As the days count down to the Friday's eagerly anticipated opening of Inglourious Basterds, which one reviewer called director Quentin Tarantino's "most accomplished, crazily entertaining film yet," FOX411 has obtained this exclusive clip, which gives some information as to star Brad Pitt's character's southern origins. Joined by The Office's B.J. Novak, Pitt is being questioned by a skeptical Nazi, and spins a yarn that's pure Tarantino, harkening back to John Travolta's famous "Royale With Cheese" monologue from Pulp Fiction.

Alien action film "District 9" tops box office

"District 9," a gritty, low-budget space alien movie set in South Africa with a cast of unknowns, opened as Hollywood's No. 1 film, grossing more at the box office its first weekend than it cost to make. The sci-fi action thriller depicting extraterrestrials as unwanted immigrants stranded in Johannesburg took in $37 million in North America, distributor Sony Pictures said on Sunday.
It said "District 9" cost less than $30 million to make, a modest budget by Hollywood standards. The film was buoyed by rave reviews and a promotional blitz at the recent Comic-Con comic book convention, which fueled strong pre-release interest among sci-fi fans. Last week's No. 1 film "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," fell to No. 2 this weekend with a Friday-through-Sunday estimated gross of $22.5 million. The only other new wide release in the top 10 this week was the Jeremy Piven comedy "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard," from Paramount Vantage, which grossed $5.4 million to open at No. 6.

Glazer "convinced" Favre-Vikings talks will continue

"After visiting the Vikings for two days, I am convinced -- positively convinced -- that Brett Favre will soon have talks with the Vikings to return to the team and could be joining them for this season after all," Glazer writes. "If my instincts are correct, all those purple Favre jerseys will have a home on Minnesota store shelves."Glazer also says that "damn near everybody" at Vikings camp agrees with this assessment. (Glazer caps that sentiment with an exclamation point. However, when that form of punctuation is associated with Glazer's name at any point going forward, our first thought will be of Glazer inviting a gaggle of blue hairs to "eat it!")Though Glazer is careful to point out that it's not hard news, it's the most confident form of educated speculation we've ever encountered.

Michael Vick Lands Job With Philadelphia Eagles

Michael Vick is back in the NFL, landing a job with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"He signed with the Eagles," agent Joel Segal told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Thursday. He said it was a two-year deal.
Vick, once the NFL's highest-paid player, has not played since 2006. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation, and served 18 of a 23-month sentence in federal prison. He also was suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
Commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick's suspension on July 27, allowing him to sign with a team, practice and play in the last two preseason games. Once the season begins, Vick can participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.
